The sun is out and it is a beautiful day.
The tour started at our flat in Holborn, and we walked over to Trafalgar Square. Across the street, at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church, we did a look inside, and then headed down into the crypt where there is a cafe. We stopped for a bite to eat and relax.
Then we walked down Whitehall Street to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
The London Eye looked appealing as the sun was out, so we crossed Westminster bridge to go have a ride. Unfortunately the Eye was out of service for repairs today :-( Perhaps another day...
Back across Westminster bridge to do the tour of the Parliament building.
This was a great tour. They took us all through the public areas of the building, including the chambers of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. It was truly fascinating to walk the halls and be in the chambers where the laws of England are formed. You can feel the history here. The building was once a palace, and now the seat of the government. It is a magnificent place to tour.
We stopped to get a sandwich, and then went over to Westminster Abbey to take the tour.
Unfortunately the line was too long and we were all tired from being on our feet all day.
We picked up our 7 day Tube Pass and headed back to the flat.
We enjoyed a quiet evening in the flat, had leftover Chinese from last night, did a little planning for the coming days in London, and some visiting and catching up with Carmilla.
It turns out the tour Carmilla took us on was the exact same tour as the self-guided tour listed in the Rick Steves book, only in reverse order. Nicely done Carmilla! We had a wonderful day.
