Sunday 9/22/2013 - The Shard and new Hotel

Today is Sunday already. Wow how the week has flown by.

We said goodbye to Carmilla today, as she is heading off to do her own thing. We really enjoyed spending time with her this past week, and she showed us a lot of London which we would have otherwise never seen on our own. Thank you Carmilla!

Today Pat and I decided we would visit 'The View from the Shard'. It is the highest building in the EU, and has observation decks on the 69 and 72 floors. The 72nd floor observation deck is partially open to the outside air, and it is invigorating.

We always seek out the tallest buildings whenever we travel, and London is no exception. If you visit London you should go to the Shard and experience it for yourself. It is a wonderful experience. We are thinking maybe next time we are in London we will visit it at night to see the city lights.

Unfortunately it was not a crystal clear day when we visited, but we still had a wonderful view nevertheless.

After the Shard we went back to Clarks to get Pat another pair of comfortable shoes for the trip. The shoes they sell in England are not the same as the shoes sold in the US, and she saw a pair she really liked, so...

When we arrived back at the base pad today we decided we had had enough with the quality of the apartment, and the lack of any type of response from the renting agency, other than the automated form  email stating how sorry they are for our inconvenience.

We called American Express and told them what was going on and the conditions at the apartment.
I will not go into the details here, but if you want to know contact us and we will give you the list. We took videos too! They immediately put a hold on the payment and they helped us to find a four star hotel which was walking distance away. We booked two nights at the Kingsley by Thistle in Bloomsburg, and we packed our suitcases and we were there in 30 minutes.

The first room they put us in was room 614, top floor and very nice, however the air conditioning was not working. Many places here do not even have air conditioning, but this room did need it as it was very warm and the windows do no open for security reasons. We had not yet unpacked the bags so I went down to the front desk to let them know. They immediately checked their master status board and it showed the A/C was out of order in that room. I do not think they knew it was not working. They immediately moved us into another room and even helped us move our bags. The new room number was 603. Our home address is Unit 1306, so we thought that was kind of cool :-)

Room 603 was a corner suite on the top floor, with an alcove room that extended off the side of the building with a view down both sides of the street. What a treat! We love this place. It is the same price per night as we were paying for a shitty apartment.
