We had a very nice flight to Manchester, and landed on time. The food in business class was amazing, and the wine and champagne was flowing.
Customs was a breeze and only took a few minutes. We were easily able to locate the train station at the Manchester airport, and we activated our rail passes and jumped onto a train to London. It was necessary to take a local train to Manchester Piccadilly, and there change trains for London. In Manchester Piccadilly, we jumped onto a Virgin Express train heading towards Euston, London.
We were very tired and just jumped onto the first car in which we saw open seats. We then realized it was a second class car, so we left the car and walked to find the first class cars. We asked a conductor and he told us the first class cars were at the front of the train. The first one we came to was almost empty, so we boarded right away. It was a good thing we changed cars, as the first class car was more roomy and they served complimentary snacks, sandwiches and drinks. We almost had the entire car to ourselves.
The view of the country side was very relaxing, and it rained on and off, which was also relaxing. Mark even took a short nap.
Once we arrived at Euston station, we dropped into a sandwich shop immediately next tot the station and waited to meet Carmilla. It was raining, ranging from a light drizzle to a steady light rain. She arrived and we had a snack and then went into the station to head over to the Holborn tube stop. She had an Oyster card for each of us, and we were set to take our first London tube ride!
Carmilla showed us some of the ropes of riding the tube, and we arrived at Holborn station in quick order. From there it was only a 10 minute walk to the flat. The flat is small, but nice. It is in Holborn, which is in West Central London, north of the Houses of Parliament and the Westminster area.
We unpacked and settled in while Carmilla ran a personal errand.
When she came back she took us shopping at a local grocery store to pick up a few groceries and necessities.
Then we went to a very nice Chinese restaurant, Kam Fung, which is directly across the street from the flat. They say the food is authentic Chinese, and it was amazing. Not like any Chinese I have had in Atlanta. I mean it was much better than what we are used to :-)
Very tired and going to bed.
